This blog is the work – or the fault – of the Rugby World Cup 2011 committee of the U.S. Embassy in Wellington, New Zealand. We’re trying to build events – and buzz – around the USA Eagles’ participation in RWC 11 in New Zealand. The Eagles will be playing in New Plymouth, Nelson and Wellington. We’re trying to tell folks there, and around New Zealand, that the U.S. has a long and proud tradition of Rugby. In fact, the U.S. is the defending Olympic gold medalist, having won in Paris – against the French – the last time the sport was contested in the Olympics.

But it goes much deeper than that. Rugby is played in High Schools, Clubs and Colleges around the United States and a number of American players are playing professionally abroad. Every one of the U.S. RWC games will even be covered live during the tournament. That has not happened before. This tournament could be a real springboard for the sport.

So enjoy – and take part. Let us know your thoughts. Give us your tips – for stories about the Eagles, not about our blogging – at usrugby.nz@gmail.com
